What This 4040 T-slot Profile Is
The 4040 T-slot profile is a square aluminium extrusion measuring 40 mm by 40 mm. Two opposite sides carry an 8.2 mm T-slot while the other two faces are closed, which gives the section a clean finished appearance where the closed sides are seen. It is extruded in 6063-T5 aluminium alloy, with 6061-T6 available where higher strength is wanted, and then anodised to a uniform silver or black surface that resists handling marks and light corrosion.

The slot opening is 8.2 mm wide and the T-slot height is 12.3 mm, so standard M8 T-bolts and flange nuts sit fully inside the channel. Wall thickness is about 1.8 mm at the outer faces and around 2.0 mm through the diagonal bars. The section weighs approximately 1.85 kg per metre. How The Slot System Works
Connections are usually made inside the slot rather than on the outside face. A T-bolt slides into the channel and a flange nut clamps the joint, while core screws and T-nuts are used for end-to-end and internal connections. Because the two open slots face opposite directions, the profile can be built into flat panels, right-angle corners and three-dimensional frames with a small number of standard fittings. Handles, hinges and panel retainers can also be mounted directly into the slot.
