What This 90x90 T-slot Profile Is

The 90x90 profile is a square aluminium extrusion with eight open T-slots running along every face and edge direction, measuring 90 mm by 90 mm. It is produced in 6063-T5 aluminium alloy, with 6061-T6 available for higher strength, and anodised to a silver or black finish. Because all eight faces accept fasteners, the section is used where parts have to be joined from many directions without extra machining.

Light And Heavy Versions

Two versions are offered: the light-duty S10-9090 and the heavy-duty S10-9090W. The light version weighs about 6.2 kg per metre with a 2 mm wall, while the heavy version weighs about 6.98 kg per metre with a 2.6 mm wall and higher stiffness. Both take a 10.2 mm slot and both connect to the 45 series, so the same fasteners and accessories can be shared across the two profile families.

Strength And The Centre Channel

The second moment of area of the standard section is lx 172.14 cm4 and ly 172.14 cm4, and the section modulus is zx 40.76 cm3 and zy 40.76 cm3; the heavy version raises these to 200.90 cm4 and 48.15 cm3. In the heavy version the closed centre area can be used as a conduit for airlines or as a pressurised air manifold. The load a finished frame can carry depends on the fittings and the connection method rather than on the profile alone, so the frame should be checked as a whole.

Selection And Pre-order Checklist

Choose the 90 series when spans are long or loads are heavy and a smaller 40 or 45 series section would deflect too much. Decide between the light and heavy versions using the stiffness figures above, and check the connection method, because bolted joints, T-nuts and corner brackets behave differently under load. Before ordering, confirm the alloy and temper, the surface treatment and colour, the cut length and tolerance, and any drilling, tapping or CNC machining. Confirm the accessories and the packing method, and ask for a cut sample when the application is load-critical.

Working With The 90 Series

The 10.2 mm slot takes standard 45 series T-bolts, flange nuts and corner brackets, and the bore through the centre is also 10.2 mm, so end caps, joining plates and core connectors can be fitted with the same tooling used for smaller 45 series frames. Where eight slots are more than the design needs, the lighter 45 series can be used for secondary members while the 90 series carries the main load, which keeps weight and cost down while preserving a common accessory set.
