The 7075 T6 aluminium tube is a hollow aluminium section produced in the 7075 alloy and supplied in the T6 temper. Tubes of this type are used where a light and stable tubular section is needed, and the 7075 T6 material is chosen for parts that call for an aluminium alloy in a compact section.
Aluminium alloy 7075 belongs to the 7xxx series, in which zinc is the main alloying element. The T6 temper is reached through solution heat treatment followed by artificial ageing, a route that gives a stable and consistent material condition. Because 7075 responds well to machining and to further fabrication, tubes made from this alloy can be cut, drilled, tapped, bent and joined. The working practice should always be matched to the wall thickness and to the duty of the finished part.
The tube form gives a hollow section that combines stiffness with low weight. Aluminium tubes are commonly produced by extrusion, by drawing, or by a combination of the two, and each route gives the section its own surface character and dimensional tolerance. Tubes can be supplied in straight lengths or in a coiled form, depending on the section and on the handling needs of the project.
The surface of an aluminium tube can be left as produced or treated further. Common treatments for aluminium include anodising, powder coating and painting, and the choice is made according to the appearance and the service conditions that the finished part will meet. Because a surface treatment changes the look of the metal, the finish should be agreed before production so that the delivered goods match the sample or drawing that has been approved.
Aluminium tubes in the 7075 T6 condition are found in many branches of light engineering. Typical parts include frames, poles, supports, spacers and general tubular assemblies, and the material is often selected for products that need a section which stays true in service. When a part is designed for a particular duty, the wall thickness, the section and the temper should be checked against the stresses and the conditions of the final assembly.
Aluminium is a relatively soft metal and its surface can be marked by careless handling. Tubes should be lifted and stacked so that they are not dragged over one another, and they should be kept in a dry place away from moisture and from materials that can stain the metal. Where tubes are stored for a long period, it is good practice to keep them clear of the floor and to protect the ends so that dust and water do not collect inside the section.
