Anodized 6000 series aluminium round tube is a round aluminium alloy tube whose surface has been given an anodic oxide layer. This listing covers round tube in the 6000 series supplied for industry, support and decoration work, where a round section and a clean, even finish are wanted together.
The tube is made from aluminium alloy in the 6000 series, which combines aluminium with magnesium and silicon and is widely used for extruded tube because it forms well and holds its shape after working. The tube is supplied as a round section, so the outside is a true circle and the wall is even around the circumference.
Anodizing is an electrochemical finish: the tube is made the anode in an acid bath, and a controlled current builds an oxide layer that grows out of the metal itself rather than sitting on top of it. Because the layer is formed from the aluminium, it follows the surface closely and does not flake away at the edges. Bare aluminium forms a thin natural oxide of its own, but that layer is uneven; the anodized layer is thicker and far more uniform, so the finish stays consistent around the tube and from one length to the next.
Round tube is cut, drilled, punched and bent with the normal methods used for aluminium, and it is joined by welding, by mechanical fixings or by inserts at the ends. A round section suits parts that turn, slide or fit inside one another, and it gives a smooth outer face for frames and rails. Where a cut leaves bare metal, that face can be left as it is or given a local finish.
Because the finish is hard and even, the tube is chosen for parts that are seen and handled: frames and supports, decorative rails and trims, and general industry work. The round section carries well in bending, so it is also used where a curved or arched shape is needed.
Anodized tube holds its appearance best when it is kept clean. Grit and metal dust drawn across the surface during handling can dull the finish, so lengths are best stored straight and apart rather than piled loose. Wiping the tube with a soft cloth and a mild cleaner removes most marks; harsh abrasives are best avoided, because they cut into the surface instead of cleaning it.
The main points to settle are the outside diameter and wall thickness the part needs, the length of each cut, and whether the finish should be anodized or left as mill finish. Where the part will be seen, the finish and the section shape the look of the finished work; where it will carry a load, the alloy and wall do the work.
