This 6063 extruded aluminum heat sink profile is produced by pushing heated aluminum billets through a shaped die, so the fins, base and mounting lands are formed in a single continuous piece. Because the fins and the base are one solid extrusion rather than separate parts joined together, heat travels from the base into the fins without passing through a bonded interface, and the profile stays rigid even when it is used as a structural mounting plate.
The profile is made from 6063 aluminum alloy, a magnesium and silicon bearing grade chosen for its combination of thermal conductivity, formability and an even surface finish after anodizing or clear coating. The fin geometry, base thickness, width and length are matched to the drawing or sample supplied with each enquiry, and the tooth form is kept consistent along the full length so that a heat sink can be cut into several identical sections without changing its performance. Tolerances on width, height and straightness are held so that the profile sits flat against the device or board it cools. Because the extrusion is straight and true, several lengths can be mounted side by side to build a larger cooling area when a single profile is not wide enough.
The profile is commonly used for LED lighting fixtures and drivers, power supplies, motor housings, inverter and converter enclosures, display panels and other electronic equipment where heat has to be moved away from a component into the surrounding air. Flat base sections can be drilled or tapped for screws, and lengths can be cut and machined so that the heat sink fits an existing housing without further tooling. The exposed fins also give a tidy, finished look when the part is visible on the outside of a product.
Send us the profile drawing, the alloy and temper, the length and the finish you need, and we will confirm the details before production. Short sample lengths are available so that fit, fin form and surface finish can be checked before a full order is placed.
