The 7075 aluminum tent pole connector joins two sections of a tent pole into one continuous, load-bearing length. It is built for trekking pole tents, where a hiking pole doubles as the main upright, but the same geometry suits any aluminum pole system packed in short segments. The joint carries the full bending load, so the body is machined from 7075 aluminum and finished smooth to slide cleanly through sleeves and clips.
7075 aluminum is a high-strength alloy chosen where low weight and high stiffness are needed together. A connector in this alloy transmits bending between pole segments without adding much mass, helping keep the packed weight of the tent low. The body is machined from one piece, so there is no weld or seam at the point of highest stress, and the outer diameter and socket are turned on the same axis to keep the assembled pole straight.
Each connector has a socket at either end. The plain end of one pole section is pushed into a socket and the mating section into the opposite socket. A shoulder stops each pole at the correct depth so the ends cannot creep together under compression. The joint relies on the close fit between pole and socket wall; under tension the connector is held in compression and the joint becomes rigid, so no tools are needed to join or separate the sections.
Sockets are sized to match the pole diameter they are paired with, and the shoulder depth is set so the pole ends meet inside the connector without binding. When assembled, the pole runs straight through and the connector does not stand proud of the pole surface, so the pole does not snag on a sleeve as it is threaded through or seated in a ridge clip on a trekking pole tent.
These connectors are used on trekking pole tents, dome tents, tunnel tents and lightweight backpacking shelters. They also suit awning frames, gazebo poles, tarp support poles and any tubular aluminum frame built from short segments. A connector can be paired with straight pole sections to form a long ridge pole, or used where the frame changes direction when the sockets match the pole ends.
The body can be supplied in a natural machined finish or with an anodized coating that adds a hard, corrosion-resistant surface in clear or in colours that match the tent trim. Aluminum does not rust, but grit trapped between pole and socket can score both over time, so wiping the pole ends before assembly and storing the segments dry keeps the joint working smoothly.
