This aluminum alloy tube is produced in 6000 series alloy with a spring button connection, so sections push together and lock without tools. It is made in round, oval and square sections and is used mainly for camping and awning poles, where a light tube that flexes and springs back is needed to build a frame that stays upright in wind. Because the tube is the load-bearing part of the frame, the wall, alloy and temper are selected together rather than in isolation.
The tube is drawn from the 1000 to 7000 series of aluminium alloys, with an aluminium content of at least 98.8%, and tempers from T3 to T8 are available. Hardness typically falls between 160 and 205 Rm/Mpa, so the alloy and temper can be matched to the load the pole has to carry and to the way the section will be formed.
Wall thickness ranges from 0.3mm to 50mm and lengths are made to the customer requirement, which allows both thin decorative sections and heavier structural tube to be quoted from the same range. A tolerance of about 10% applies to the section, and the round, oval and square profiles cover the shapes normally used for poles, frames and supports. Non-standard sections and intermediate walls can be quoted from a drawing rather than being limited to a catalogue list.
The surface can be supplied as mill finish, anodized, polished or powder coated. Anodizing and powder coating both add a protective skin that resists scuffing and the corrosion that follows damp storage, while mill finish and polishing suit parts that will be painted or left bare. The finish is chosen to suit the appearance and the service conditions of the part, and colours can be matched to a sample where a visible finish is required.
Sections can be cut, punched, bent, decoiled and welded, and customized logo, packaging and graphic options are available for buyers who need the tubes labelled or boxed for their own stock. Tubes are produced to the agreed drawing or sample, with the alloy, temper, section, wall and length confirmed before the order is run. Cutting, bending and punching are planned so the sections arrive ready to assemble.
Beyond tent and awning poles, the tube is used in the construction industry, in automobile parts and in general industrial work such as frames, rails and supports. Batches are checked for outside dimension, wall thickness, straightness and surface condition before dispatch, and the tube meets common standards including GB/T 5237, EN12020, ASTM B85 and JIS H5302.
