Alloy and Temper

7001 is an aluminum-zinc alloy with magnesium and copper additions. In the T6 temper it is solution heat treated and then artificially aged, which is what develops its high strength. Because the strength comes from the heat treatment rather than from wall thickness alone, the tube can be kept thin, and that is the reason this alloy is common in weight-sensitive structures such as poles, shafts and frames.

Anodized Finish

The anodized layer is grown from the aluminum itself rather than applied on top of it.
