Aluminum door and window profiles are extruded sections that form the frames, sashes, mullions and glazing beads of a window or door system. Because the sections are extruded rather than rolled or folded, the wall thickness and the shape of the glazing slot stay consistent along the whole length, which makes the profiles easy to cut, machine and assemble on site.
A window or door frame is a set of profiles that work together. The outer frame fixes to the opening, the sash holds the glass, and the mullion divides a wide opening into smaller panels. A glazing bead presses the glass into the sash, and a sill or threshold closes the bottom of the opening. Weather strips and drainage channels are usually formed into the profile itself, so the section shape decides how well the finished window keeps out water and draughts.
Thermal breaks are common in modern systems: a non-metallic strip separates the inner and outer aluminum so that heat does not travel straight through the frame.
Profiles are normally anodized or powder coated. Anodizing gives a hard, corrosion-resistant surface with a metallic look, while powder coating allows a wide range of solid colours and a thicker, more uniform film. Mill finish is also used where the profile will be hidden or painted later. In all cases the surface has to be prepared before finishing, because marks and die lines left by extrusion show through the final coating.
Profiles can be produced to a drawing, with the cross section, alloy, wall thickness, length and finish chosen for the application. Common options include new die design for a project-specific section, machining such as drilling, punching, notching, milling and mitring, and matched accessories such as corners, gaskets and end caps. A new cross section needs its own die, so buyers should confirm whether an existing die can be reused.
Send the section drawing, the required length, the finish and the quantity, and we will confirm which parts can be produced from an existing die and which would need new tooling. Samples can be arranged so that the section and the finish can be checked before a full order is placed.
