Aluminum Heat Sink Profiles for LED and Electronic Cooling
Extruded aluminum heat sinks carry heat away from LEDs, power components and electronic assemblies through a finned aluminum body. The fins increase the surface area that contacts the air, so the same footprint removes more heat than a flat plate. Our heat sink profiles are extruded to the fin pitch and base thickness required by the thermal design, then cut, drilled and finished as a ready-to-mount part.
Material and extrusion
Heat sink profiles are produced in 6063 and 6061 aluminium, both of which extrude into thin, straight fins and conduct heat well. The extrusion die sets the fin height, fin thickness and gap between fins; a wider gap gives better airflow and easier cleaning, while a tighter pitch gives more surface area in the same width. Bases can be left flat or machined flat after extrusion so that the heat sink sits evenly on the component or thermal pad it cools.
Fabrication services

Surface finish
Anodizing is the usual finish for heat sinks because the black anodized surface radiates heat better than bare aluminium and also protects against corrosion. Natural, black and bronze anodized finishes are available, as are powder coated colours for decorative housings. A mill finish is used where the part is hidden inside an enclosure or will be machined again later. Edges are deburred so that fins stay straight and safe to handle.
Applications
Typical uses include LED street and flood light housings, LED strip and module carriers, power supply enclosures, inverter and driver cooling, computer and display backplates, motor and pump housings, battery pack cooling plates and outdoor luminaire bodies. The same profile can often be used at several lengths, which reduces tooling cost across a product family.

To quote a heat sink, please send the drawing or sample together with the fin width and height, the base thickness, the cut length and the fixing hole positions. Finish, tolerance and packing requirements can be produced to your specification, and profiles can be supplied cut to length or as long extrusion bars for your own machining.
