Aluminum profiles for window and door systems are the extruded frame sections that carry glass, hold hinges and locks, and give an opening its shape. The profiles are made by pushing heated aluminium through a shaped die, so the cross-section stays constant for the whole length of the bar and frames can be cut from the same extrusion run after run. That makes them straightforward to fabricate into window sashes, door leaves, outer frames, transoms and mullions.
Aluminium suits these sections because it is light, stiff for its weight and naturally resistant to corrosion, so a finished frame stays accurate in service without the repainting that steel or timber needs. Extrusion also lets complex details - glazing rebates, screw ports, drainage channels and fixing grooves - be formed in a single pass instead of being machined afterwards. The section therefore arrives ready for cutting, drilling and assembly, which shortens the work on the bench.
A window or door system depends on sections that fit together: outer frames, sashes, transoms and mullions each have their own profile but share the same jointing details. Extruded profiles are mitred at the corners and joined with cleats, corner stakes or brackets, while glazing beads and gaskets are pushed into the same geometry to hold the glass. Because the section is uniform, a fabricator can set one machine and cut a complete window run to size.
The sections cut cleanly on standard aluminium saw blades and can be drilled, tapped, punched and routed with normal tooling for the material. Corners are usually mitred and crimped or bracketed, and simple butt joints are bolted where an exposed fixing is acceptable. After assembly the frame can be left in its mill finish or given a surface treatment, and the profile geometry stays the same either way, so the hardware and beads still fit the section.
For a window or door maker the priorities are a consistent section, workable joints and a finish that lasts. Extruded aluminium profiles deliver all three: bars arrive straight and accurate, the details needed for glazing and hardware are already formed in the profile, and the material does not need ongoing protection against rust. Supplied in standard lengths, they can be cut to suit repeated window and door sizes with very little waste on the bench.
