Aluminum Tent Pole Replacement Rod Overview
This aluminum tent pole replacement rod is the spare section used to rebuild a pole that has been bent, kinked or broken in service. Instead of replacing a whole frame, the damaged section is measured, the same length is cut from the aluminum rod, and the new section is fitted back into the pole run so that the tent or awning stands correctly again.
The rod is produced from aluminum alloy, which gives the combination of low weight and stiffness that a pole needs. Aluminum keeps the packed weight of the tent down, so the pole set stays easy to carry and handle, and the material does not rust in damp conditions. That matters for camping equipment, where poles are packed away wet and stored for long periods between trips.
Sizing and Fit
Replacement sections are matched to the outside diameter and wall thickness of the original pole so that the new piece sits in line with the rest of the run. Where the pole is a multi-section design, the replacement rod is cut to the exact length of the damaged section and the original ferrule or connector is reused. Where the pole uses shock cord, the cord is re-threaded through the new section when the pole is reassembled.
Where the Rod Is Used
Typical uses include dome and tunnel tent frames, awning poles, canopy and gazebo frames, tarp and shelter supports, and the pole sets used on camping furniture. In each case the rod acts as a straight, light structural member that carries the bending load from wind and from the tension of the flysheet, and it keeps the shape of the frame after the tent is pitched.
Cutting and Assembly
The rod can be cut with a fine tooth saw or a tube cutter and the cut end deburred so that it slides cleanly into the next section. Ends can be swaged or fitted with the original end caps and ferrules where the pole design calls for them. Because the section is straight and uniform, several lengths can be cut from one rod to repair more than one pole in the same set.
Packing and Inspection
Each rod is checked for diameter, wall thickness, straightness and surface condition before packing. The surface is inspected for dents, scratches and marks so that the replacement section matches the rest of the frame in appearance as well as in size, and the rods are packed so that they arrive straight and free of transport damage.
