Threaded connected aluminum tube is extruded from 6061 or 7075 alloy, cut to length, then machined so that internal or external threads are formed at one or both ends. Two tubes can therefore be screwed together directly, without a separate coupling, clamp or weld, which keeps the joint concentric and allows a structure to be assembled and taken apart again on site.
6061-T6 provides the balance of strength and machinability that most threaded joints call for: it cuts clean threads, resists stripping under normal tightening torque and stays dimensionally stable after anodising. 7075 offers higher tensile strength for joints that carry heavier loads or see repeated tightening, and is normally chosen where the tube also forms part of a load-bearing frame.
Threads are cut on a lathe or with a tapping head to the pitch and class nominated by the buyer, so a male end on one tube can be matched to a female end on the next. The wall thickness at the threaded section is kept generous enough to leave full thread depth after machining, and the transition from thread to plain tube is left square so the joint beds down without wobble.
Connected tube lengths are used for display and exhibition frames, tent and gazebo pole sets, railing and balustrade sections, machine guard frames, tripod and camera support poles, and adjustable equipment stands. Where a run has to be built to an exact length on site, a threaded joint allows the assembly to be extended or shortened by swapping in a shorter tube rather than cutting the frame.
Please specify the alloy and temper, outside diameter, wall thickness, thread size and pitch, male or female end arrangement, overall length and quantity. Assembled samples and thread gauges can be quoted where the joint geometry needs to be proven before a production run.
Before dispatch, tube lengths are checked for outside diameter, wall thickness, straightness and thread fit, so a male end and a female end taken from the same batch screw together as intended. Where the buyer works to a written inspection procedure, additional documentary checks can be arranged against the agreed drawing.
