What This 45x90 T-slot Profile Is
The 45x90 profile is a rectangular aluminium extrusion measuring 45 mm by 90 mm with six open T-slots around its section. It is produced in 6063-T5 aluminium alloy, with 6061-T6 available for greater strength, and anodised to a silver or black finish. The rectangular shape gives the profile more stiffness in one direction than a square section of similar weight, which suits machine frames that carry a bending load.
Section Data And Three Versions
The slot width is 10.2 mm and the T-slot height is 12.3 mm, with a 10.2 mm bore and a 4 mm wall through the main body. The section weighs about 3.8 kg per metre. Its second moment of area is lx 100.17 cm4 and ly 26.27 cm4, and the section modulus is zx 22.26 cm3 and zy 11.67 cm3, so stiffness is much higher about the deeper axis, and the profile should be oriented with that axis against the main bending load. Three versions are available, 4590, 4590L and 4590W, and all 45 series profiles connect freely with one another.
How The Slot System Works
The 10.2 mm slots accept standard 45 series T-bolts, flange nuts and corner brackets, so frames can be built with a small number of fittings. Because the profile has six slots, panels, doors, handles and hinges can be mounted on several faces at once, and extra members can be joined without welding. As with all bolted T-slot frames, the load a joint can carry depends on the fittings and the tightening method, so the assembly should be checked as a whole.

Choose the 45x90 section when the frame needs high bending stiffness in one direction and a square 45 series would flex too much. Decide which of the 4590, 4590L and 4590W versions matches the required wall and load, and orient the deep axis against the main load. Before ordering, confirm the alloy and temper, the surface treatment and colour, the cut length and tolerance, and any drilling, tapping or CNC work. Confirm the accessories and the packing method, and request a cut sample when the frame is load-critical.
Because the six slots are arranged around the section, one length of 45x90 can act as both a load-bearing beam and a mounting face, which reduces the number of separate brackets in a design and keeps the frame compact. Members are cut to order, so they can be prepared to the drawing before assembly.
There are three types of option: 4590, 4590L and 4590W profiles. All 45 series T-slot aluminium extrusion profile can freely connect with each other.
