Custom Aluminum Telescoping Pole Overview

This telescoping pole is built from two or more round aluminum tubes that slide inside one another and lock at the chosen length. The locking joint is a clamping collar: a lever or a knurled screw closes the collar onto the inner tube, so the pole can be set by hand at any point along its travel rather than only at fixed hole positions.

Because the pole is a custom item, the number of sections, the outside diameter of each section, the wall thickness, the extended and closed lengths, and the locking hardware are all specified by the buyer. 6061 and 6063 alloys are the usual choices for the tube itself; 6061-T6 is selected where the pole carries a bending load, while 6063-T5 answers where a smooth anodised surface matters more than strength.

Clamping Lock and Sliding Fit

The inner tube is drawn to a sliding fit inside the outer tube so that it moves freely but does not rattle once locked. The collar sits over a slit section of the outer tube; tightening the lever compresses the slit and grips the inner tube. Section overlap is kept generous so that the extended pole stays straight under load and does not rock at the joint.

Typical Uses

Telescoping poles are used for camera and lighting stands, backdrop and banner supports, tent and awning frame extensions, cleaning and reaching poles, display racks, and height-adjustable equipment stands. A clamping lock is chosen over a spring-pin lock wherever the user needs to set an intermediate length, which is common on stands that are adjusted for each job.

To quote a custom pole, please give the extended length, the closed length, the outside diameter of the outer section, the number of sections, the locking style and the finish. Drawings, sample sections and fitted assemblies can be produced so that the sliding fit and lock pressure can be confirmed before a production order is placed.
