Aluminum Telescopic Extendable Pole | Twist Lock Aluminium Tube for Adjustable Reach

The aluminum telescopic extendable pole on this page is built from nested aluminium tubes that slide out and lock at the length needed for the job. A twist lock is used, so the user turns the outer sleeve to clamp the inner section and the pole holds its setting without tools. Supplied as a custom part, the pole is made to the customer's drawing rather than to a fixed catalogue length.

Sectional construction. The pole is made from two or more tube sections of decreasing diameter that telescope into one another. Each section is cut and its ends are formed so that the sections slide freely but still line up when extended. The number of sections sets the balance between folded length and stiffness: more sections pack shorter, while fewer sections give a straighter pole with less play at the joints.

Twist lock action. The lock is a collar or sleeve that compresses a split insert against the inner tube when it is turned. Because the clamping force is spread around the tube rather than applied at a single point, the surface is not dented and the lock can be released and reset many times without losing grip. The twist lock is chosen where the pole must be adjusted quickly by hand and where a positive, visible lock is preferred to a friction fit.

Materials and finish. The sections are produced in aluminium, which keeps the extended pole light enough to carry and hold overhead. Surface treatment can be mill finish, anodized or powder coated, and anodizing is normally chosen for poles used outdoors because the oxide layer resists scratching and corrosion where the sections rub together. Wall thickness and outside diameter are set by the drawing so the extension ratio and the bending stiffness can be balanced for the load.

Applications. The main uses are tent and awning poles, adjustable support stays, camera and lighting mounts, reach poles for cleaning and maintenance tools, and adjustable handles for garden and outdoor equipment. In each case the pole has to be extended to a working length on site and then packed down to a short bundle for transport. End fittings such as threaded studs, hooks, caps or hand grips can be fitted to suit the accessory the pole carries.

Made to order. Drawings and a sample pole are approved before production, and each order is checked for extended and closed length, lock grip and straightness against that sample. Orders are supplied assembled, with each section already matched to its lock collar, so the pole works straight out of the pack. Spare sections and lock collars can be ordered separately so a damaged pole can be repaired rather than replaced.
