Custom Anodized Aluminum Pipe Overview

This round aluminum pipe is anodised in black, blue or red after extrusion, so the colour sits in the surface layer of the metal rather than on top of it. Because the anodic film is grown from the aluminum itself, it does not chip away from an edge the way paint or powder can, which matters on parts that are handled, slid against one another, or repeatedly taken apart.

Colour is set by dyeing the anodic film before it is sealed. Black is the most common requirement for camera, audio and display hardware; blue and red are used for colour-coded poles, sports and leisure frames, and equipment where a section has to be identified at a glance. The same extrusion can be run in several colours, so a customer can order a set of matched tubes in different finishes.

Surface and Colour Control

Before anodising, the tube is degreased and etched so that extrusion lines and handling marks are evened out. Colour is checked against an approved sample, under the customer's own light conditions where necessary, because anodic colour shifts slightly with film thickness and alloy. Clear, matte and semi-bright finishes are also available.

Where It Is Used

Anodised round pipe is used for telescopic pole sets, display and exhibition frames, furniture legs and rails, shelf uprights, sports and camping equipment, and audio or photographic stands. On telescoping parts the anodic layer also reduces the chance of galling between the sliding tubes, which keeps the fit smooth over repeated extension and retraction.

Please give the alloy, outside diameter, wall thickness, length, colour and quantity, together with any machining such as cut ends, holes or threads. Colour samples can be supplied for approval before a batch is anodised.
