2) 7000 series prebend tent poles. The bend degree and length can be customized
3) Customized tent poles and accessories are acceptable.
A tent pole decides how the frame stands up in wind, how much weight goes into the pack and how quickly the tent goes up. This pole is made from aluminium tube drawn to the diameters on the customer drawing, anodized for protection and colour, and welded into collapsible lengths so the frame folds and rebuilds without tools.
The four diameters, 13 mm, 11 mm, 9.5 mm and 8.5 mm, exist to telescope: the smaller tube slides inside the next size up, so successive sections extend into one continuous pole and collapse into a bundle short enough for a pack. Wall thickness and the clearance between sizes are set together, because too much clearance makes a rattling, weak joint and too little makes a pole that jams when grit gets between the tubes. The drawing fixes which section sits where, so the pole balances the same way every time.
Welding joins the fittings, inserts and end pieces to the tube so that a section cannot pull apart under load. The weld also has to hold the tube round: a distorted end will not accept the next section, so each joint is checked for roundness before it goes forward. Where a shock cord is used, the cord runs through the hollow bore and pulls the sections together, so the pole assembles itself as the sections are released.
Anodizing grows an oxide layer into the aluminium surface rather than laying a coating on top of it, so it does not chip or peel where poles get handled most. The process can produce clear, silver or a range of colours, and the film resists the salt, sun and abrasion a tent frame meets outdoors. Colour is matched against a sample because the alloy and the anodizing conditions both shift the shade.
Straight tube is rarely the final shape. Bending puts the curve into a pole where the frame arches over a doorway, follows the ridge of a tunnel tent or sweeps into a vestibule, and tube-to-tube bending keeps the wall from collapsing at the bend. The bend radius and the angle are agreed before production, so the pole arrives already shaped.
Each tube is checked for diameter, wall thickness and straightness, and every welded end is inspected for penetration and a smooth bore. Anodized poles are compared against the approved colour sample, and the sections are assembled into a pole and folded once to confirm that the joints telescope cleanly.
Specify the pole by the section sizes, the wall thickness, the bent shape and the end fittings, together with the colour and the number of sections in each pole. With those agreed, the anodized, welded and bent pole arrives ready to fit the tent rather than ready to be reworked.
