This aluminum tube range covers 5083 alloy tubing supplied in a wide spread of outside diameters and wall thicknesses, so buyers can order the exact pipe size a job calls for instead of adapting a fixed catalogue size. Tubes are drawn or extruded to a consistent round section and are available in straight lengths, which suits structural frames, handrails, marine fittings and fabricated parts. Because the diameter and wall are selected independently, the same alloy can be supplied as a light decorative tube or as a heavier structural pipe, and metric and imperial sizes can be matched to an existing drawing where required.
The tube is made from 5083 aluminium, a non heat treatable alloy known for high strength, excellent corrosion resistance and good weldability. It performs well in marine and salt water environments, which is why 5083 is often specified for boat hulls, decks, railings and offshore fabrication. The alloy keeps useful strength after welding and does not need heat treatment after joining, so it can be cut and welded on site with standard aluminium equipment. It also resists cracking in cold conditions, handles moderate forming without losing its properties, and takes an anodised or painted finish for appearance and extra protection.
Buyers use the tubing for marine railings and ladders, truck and trailer frames, hydraulic and pneumatic lines, heat exchanger parts, furniture frames, and general structural pipe work. Round tube is the usual choice for load bearing frames and fluid lines, while the same alloy can be supplied in other sections when a project needs square or rectangular members. Fabricators also choose the tube for jigs, brackets, support legs and machine guards where a strong but light member is needed. Because the surface takes anodising and powder coating well, the tube can be left mill finish or finished to match the surrounding structure.
Tube is cut with a carbide tipped saw or a band saw set for aluminium, and the cut ends are deburred before assembly. Bending works best with a mandrel bender and a suitable radius to avoid flattening the wall; sharp bends may need a thicker wall or a filler inside the tube. Welding 5083 calls for a matching filler and low heat input, and welded joints should be cleaned afterwards to keep the corrosion resistance of the surface. Holes for bolts and fittings are drilled with standard high speed tooling.
Tubes ship in bundles with protective wrapping to keep the surfaces free of dents and scratches in transit, and short cut lengths can be produced against a cutting list so that a fabrication shop receives material ready to weld.
