Overview

These aluminum alloy trekking poles are walking aids that adjust in length and pack down small. Each pole is built from telescoping sections so the height can be set to suit the user, then locked before the walk begins. The adjustable design lets the same pole serve a tall walker on open ground and a shorter setting on a steep climb, and lets the pair be collapsed for carrying when the path becomes too rough to need them.

Shaft and Adjustment

The shaft is made from aluminum alloy tubing in two or three nesting sections. Each joint uses a locking mechanism that clamps the inner tube once the length is set, so the pole holds its position under the downward push of a walking stride. Sections are finished so they slide freely when released, and the locking collar can be tightened by hand without tools. A printed scale or set of marks makes it easy to return to a familiar height.

Grip and Strap

The hand grip is shaped to sit comfortably in the palm and is capped so the hand can rest on top when climbing. A wrist strap loops over the hand to take part of the load and to keep the pole from being dropped on loose ground. Grips and straps are fitted as supplied, so the pole can be adjusted and used without further assembly.

Tips and Ground Contact

A hardened tip is fitted at the base for grip on rock and packed trail, and the tip can be capped with a rubber foot for use on pavement or indoor floors. A small basket around the shaft sits above the tip to stop the pole sinking too deep into soft ground such as mud, sand or snow. Tips are a wearing part and can be replaced when they lose their edge.

Materials and Weight

Aluminum alloy keeps the poles light enough to carry all day while staying stiff enough to take a firm push. The tube wall is kept thin and even so the poles feel light in the hand yet still resist bending when they are pushed against the ground. Because the alloy does not rust like steel, the poles stand up to damp weather and wet ground with only basic care.

Typical uses include hill and mountain walking, long-distance hiking, trail running on gentle ground, and everyday walking support. A pair is often used together for balance on uneven paths, while a single pole is common for casual walks. Care and Storage

After a walk in mud or salt, wipe the shaft and joints with a damp cloth and let them dry fully before collapsing the poles. Store them with the locks open to avoid putting long-term pressure on the clamps. Check the tips and locking collars from time to time, and replace worn tips or tighten a collar that has started to slip.
