6061 Aluminum Alloy Tube - Extruded Round Aluminum Pipe
Our 6061 aluminum alloy tube is an extruded round aluminum pipe for buyers who need a light, straight and dimensionally stable tube for tent frames, structural assemblies and general fabrication. It is drawn from 6061 aluminium alloy, a magnesium and silicon based grade chosen where strength, corrosion resistance and workability must balance, and each batch is extruded, straightened, cut to length and inspected before dispatch.
Material and Temper
6061 is a heat treatable aluminium alloy. The tube can be supplied in T4, T5 or T6 temper to suit the job: T4 gives good formability for bending and further processing, T5 offers a practical balance for general structural work, and T6 delivers the highest strength of the three for load bearing frames. Other 6xxx grades such as 6063 and 6060 can be discussed when a drawing calls for them.
Production Process
Production begins with billet heating and extrusion through a hardened die that sets the outer diameter and wall thickness. The profile is then cooled, stretched and straightened to remove distortion, and cut to the ordered length. Cold drawing and cold rolling can be applied where tighter tolerances or a smoother finish are needed. The finished tube is cleaned and, on request, anodised or powder coated for appearance and added surface protection.
Characteristics
- Light weight compared with steel tube of the same size
- Good corrosion resistance outdoors and in humid conditions
- Readily machined, cut, drilled and punched
- Can be welded and joined by common aluminium methods
- Heat treatable to raise strength for structural duty
- Smooth surface that accepts anodising and coating
Typical Applications
Tent frames and pole sets are a common use, where straightness and a clean surface matter as much as strength. The same tube serves exhibition structures, display frames, shelf and rack systems, bicycle and scooter parts, machine guards, handrails and general workshop fabrication. Because it is produced in a range of diameters and wall thicknesses, it fits both light display work and heavier structural frames.
Quality Control
Every run is inspected against the agreed specification. Dimensions, wall thickness, surface condition and straightness are checked and recorded for the batch. If you need certificates or a particular inspection routine, state the requirement before ordering and the work will be arranged.
FAQ
Can the tube be cut to a fixed length? Yes, lengths are cut to the size on the order and tolerances are agreed in advance.
Which temper should I choose? T4 suits bending, T5 suits general structural use, and T6 suits maximum strength demand.
