A telescopic aluminium pole is made from two or more tube sections that slide inside one another so the overall length can be set by the user. The sections are sized so that each smaller tube fits closely inside the next larger one, and a lock holds the chosen length once it is set. This lets one pole cover a range of heights instead of a single fixed length.
The sections are produced from aluminium alloy tube, commonly grades such as 6063 or 6061, chosen for light weight and for the smooth surface needed where tubes slide inside each other. Wall thickness is selected so the pole stays stiff when extended but still fits neatly inside the outer section, and the fit between sections is controlled so the pole does not rattle in use.
A twist lock uses a collar with a tapered wedge inside it. Turning the collar tightens the wedge against the inner tube, and turning it back releases the tube so the pole can be extended or closed. The lock grips over a band of the tube rather than at a single point, which spreads the load and keeps the pole steady.
Flip lever locks and spring button locks are also used on this type of pole. A flip lever clamps the tube when the lever is pressed down, while a spring button snaps into holes drilled at fixed positions so the length can be set only at those points. The choice depends on how often the length has to change and how much load the pole carries.
Most poles use two or three sections, and each joint needs an overlap long enough to keep the pole straight when extended. A longer overlap gives a stiffer pole, while a shorter overlap allows a more compact closed length. The range and the closed length are both set by the number of sections and their lengths.
Poles are usually supplied with a mill or anodized finish, and clear, black, bronze or coloured anodizing can be used where the surface has to match other parts of a product. Common end fittings include plastic caps, threaded ends, rubber feet, hooks and spring clips, and these are fitted after the tube is cut so the assembled length can be checked.
Before dispatch, poles are checked for the locking action, for the fit between sections and for the overall length when closed and extended. Tubes are checked for straightness, surface marks and burrs at the cut ends, and locking collars are tested to confirm that they hold the set length.
Typical uses include tent and awning poles, flag poles, gazebo legs, camera and cleaning poles, display stand uprights and support props. Please share the number of sections, tube sizes, wall thickness, closed and extended lengths, lock type, surface finish and end fittings when asking for a quotation so the parts can be matched to the use.
