Bent and anodized aluminium tubes are formed from aluminium alloy tube stock that is shaped into curved or angled sections and then finished with an anodized oxide layer. The combination of controlled forming and anodized finishing gives frame parts a light weight, a consistent wall thickness and a surface that keeps its appearance through repeated handling, assembly and outdoor exposure.
The base material is aluminium alloy tube, typically supplied in grades such as 6063 or 6061 with tempers selected to suit the amount of forming the part needs. Tubes with wall thickness from about 1.0 mm to 5.0 mm and outside diameters from about 10 mm to 80 mm are the most common for frame work, while heavier sections can be used where a stiffer member is required.
Forming can follow rotary draw bending, mandrel bending or press bending, depending on the radius, the wall thickness and how much ovality is acceptable at the bend. A mandrel is normally used when a tight centreline radius is needed on thin wall tube, because the mandrel supports the inside of the wall and limits flattening. Bends are usually kept at or above about one and a half times the outside diameter to hold a round section.
Anodizing builds a controlled oxide layer on the aluminium surface. Clear anodizing leaves the natural metal tone, while black, bronze, champagne, gold and other colours can be produced by dyeing the layer before sealing. Because the tube is bent before anodizing, the finish runs continuously across the bend and no bare areas remain where the part was formed.
Dimensional checks cover outside diameter, wall thickness, bend radius, bend angle, straight length and the flatness of the section at the bend. Tubes are cut to the required length with clean ends, and holes, slots or flattened ends can be added where the frame design calls for fixing points.
Typical uses include tent and canopy frames, gazebo and awning poles, fitness equipment frames, bicycle and scooter racks, handrail sections, display stand frames and machine guard frames. In each case the tube acts as a structural member that carries load and also shapes the finished product.
Each production lot is examined for surface condition before packing. Anodized parts are checked for colour consistency, coverage across the bend and freedom from scratches, streaks or handling marks. Formed parts are checked against the drawing for length, radius and angle so that they fit the frame assembly without rework.
Please share the alloy, tube size, wall thickness, bend radius, bend angle, overall length and drawings when requesting a quotation. These details allow the forming and finishing route to be set so the finished tubes meet the fit the frame requires.
