Aircraft Grade 7075 Aluminium Alloy Tube

This tube is drawn from 7075 aluminium alloy, a grade in the 7000 series that is widely used in aircraft work because it combines high strength with low weight. That strength is carried in a thin walled round section, so a frame or strut made from it can stay light and still hold its shape under load. The tube is supplied with a hard anodized surface, an electrochemical finish that grows an oxide layer from the aluminium itself instead of sitting on top of it as a coating would.

Because the hard anodized layer is part of the metal rather than a paint or plating, it does not flake away at cut edges or bend points the way a soft coating can, which suits parts that are handled often, exposed to damp air, or formed after finishing.

Why Hard Anodizing Is Specified

Plain aluminium forms only a thin natural oxide film, which protects it in mild conditions and little else. Hard anodizing thickens that film by an electrochemical process, giving the surface a denser, harder skin that stands up to rubbing, fingerprints and moisture far better. Because the layer is grown from the metal, the part keeps its dimensions close to the original instead of gaining the thick, soft build up of a heavy paint coat, so threads, sliding fits and close tolerance joints behave much as they would on bare tube.

Bending and Welding

The tube can be bent and welded into finished shapes rather than simply cut to length. Bending forms the round section into curved runs, handles or support arms, while welding joins the tube to fittings, plates or other tube. Starting from a straight, uniform tube keeps the bend angle predictable and the weld seam clean, so the assembled part holds the shape it was designed for.
