Anodized aluminium tube is a round aluminium section with a hard oxide layer grown out of the metal itself. This listing covers tube supplied for cutting, fabrication and general industrial work, where an even metal finish matters as much as the metal underneath.
The tube begins as drawn aluminium in the 6000 series and is then finished by anodizing, an electrochemical process that builds an oxide layer from the surface of the metal rather than adding a separate coating on top. Because the layer is formed from the tube itself, it follows every curve and edge of the section instead of sitting as a film that can lift along a cut or a bend.
Bare aluminium forms a thin natural oxide almost at once, but that layer is uneven and easily marked. Anodizing builds a thicker and more controlled layer, so the surface is consistent from one length of tube to the next. That consistency matters when tube is cut and assembled into parts that will be seen, because each section carries the same tone and texture. The anodic layer is also harder than the metal beneath it, which helps the surface stand up to the rubbing and light abrasion that tube meets in storage, cutting and assembly.
Anodized tube can be cut, drilled, punched and bent with the normal methods used for aluminium. The layer is thin and follows the metal, so it does not break away from a cut edge the way a paint or powder coat can. Where a cut leaves bare metal, that face can be left as it is or given a local finish, depending on how the part is to be used.
Tube is joined by welding, by mechanical fixings or by inserts, and the round section gives a uniform surface for each method. Because the finish is part of the metal, parts that are handled a great deal keep their appearance better than unfinished tube.
Anodized tube holds its appearance best when it is kept clean. Grit and metal dust drawn across the surface during handling can dull the finish, so lengths are best stored straight and apart rather than piled loose. Wiping the tube with a soft cloth and a mild cleaner removes most marks; harsh abrasives are best avoided, because they cut into the anodic layer instead of cleaning it.
The main points to settle are the outside diameter and wall thickness the part needs, the length of each cut, and whether the finish should be anodized or left as mill finish. Where a powder coated or other decorative look is wanted instead, that can be discussed against the same tube. Matching tube to the job by size and finish keeps the finished part consistent from the first length to the last.
