Aluminum Charge Pipe for B48 Air Intake Systems

A charge pipe carries compressed air from the turbocharger or intercooler to the engine intake. The pipe on this page is made for B48 engines and is formed from aluminium tube, then fitted with the flanges, bends and connection points needed for the intake system it serves.

Aluminium keeps the part light while giving a rigid wall that holds its shape under boost and engine movement. Because the metal does not rust, the pipe also stands up to the heat, oil mist and condensation that are normal inside an intake tract.

How the Pipe Is Made

Each pipe is built in a sequence that starts with the tube and ends with a pressure check:

• Tube cut to length and bent on a mandrel to keep the bore round
• Ends flared, beaded or machined to match the coupler or clamp
• Brackets and sensor bosses welded in position
• Weld seams inspected and the finished pipe pressure tested

Mandrel bending protects the inside of the bend, so the airflow path stays smooth and free of the ripples that a crush bend would leave. Beads rolled at the ends stop a silicone coupler from slipping off when the system is under pressure.

Fitment, Finish and Custom Work

The pipe is shaped to follow the original route, so it can replace a factory plastic pipe without moving other parts of the intake. Connection sizes, angles and mounting points are matched to the application, and the surface can be left natural or finished with a protective coating.

For customers building a one-off car or a small batch, we work from the original part, a drawing or photographs with the key dimensions. Wall thickness, diameter and finish are agreed before production, and each unit is checked against the same sample so parts from different batches fit the same engine bay.

Wall thickness and diameter are chosen to suit the boost the system will see. A pipe with a thicker wall resists ballooning under pressure and holds a steadier shape, while a thinner wall trims weight where the route is short and well supported. Both figures are agreed with the customer before the tube is cut.

Where a car runs a larger intercooler or a different turbo, the pipe can be adjusted to the new coupler positions, and we will confirm the route before it is bent.
